Department of Human Genetics

The McGill CERC in Genomic Medicine students are recruited under the Department of Human Genetics. Before applying to one of PhD/MSc position, please review carefully the Guide on Getting started with a MSc/PhD Thesis Program in Human Genetics at McGill University and the general requirements from the Department of Human Genetics.

 

Requirements

Department of Human genetics requirements for phd/MSc positions

  • Credits (for more information, please check the credit system):

    • 6 credits in cellular and molecular biology or biochemistry;

    • 3 credits in math or statistics and;

    • 3 credits in genetics.

  • cGPA (for more information on cGPA system, please check this page) : 3.5/4. Grades will be converted from the scale used at the sending institution to that used by the Graduate and Post-Doctoral Studies Office of McGill.

  • Language skills: minimum scores of 600 on the TOEFL paper-based test, 250 on the computer based test or 100 on the Internet based test are required. On the IELTS the minimum standard for consideration is 7.

CERC team additional requirements

  • If you wish to be supervised by Claude Bhérer, Daniel Taliun, Satoshi Yoshiji or Sirui Zhou, proficiency in programming and computational skills is highly recommended and will be assessed through transcripts and optional skill test. If you have alternate experience, please explain it in the “application of interest” form.

  • PLEASE NOTE that we require a cGPA of 3.7/4 for international students to be eligible to the Tuition Assistance.

Application of interest

Application process

An application to the McGill CERC in Genomic Medicine team will take place in 2 steps:

  1. Application of interest to the CERC: the CERC team will request you to fill one of the form below, to provide your CV, a letter of motivation and your transcript as well as optional documents described in the form

  2. Application to McGill: if the CERC team select your application, then you will need to apply and be accepted to the MSc/PhD Thesis Programs in Human Genetics through the McGill application portal. Please be aware that a pre-selection by the CERC team doesn’t ensure a selection by the Human Genetics Department.

Please note that student stipends are available through the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies office, the Department of Human Genetics and our team.
